Xerri is already one of the fastest outside backs in the game, but could be quicker still in 2020. The teenager recently began working with renowned speed coach Roger Fabri in a bid to overhaul his running technique.
“The clock doesn’t lie and this guy is running, hand-held, 6.5 seconds over 60 metres,” Fabri said. “That would be up there with the quickest – if not the quickest – 60 seconds that I’ve had from any footballer this offseason.
“What was surprising is that his mechanics were just so poor. Usually, I don’t need to fix so much. These guys usually come to me put together pretty well. But this is one bloke I couldn’t wait any longer [to correct].
“I get all sorts in my garage. This guy looks like a Mazda but goes like a formula one car. He’s put on about five kilograms and it has given him more power without affecting his speed to date. The scary thing is I haven’t given him the best things [to work on] yet. The upside is I don’t know how far I can take him. It’s crazy. The best is yet to come.”
